About Zelos

Zelos Therapeutics specializes in the development of innovative treatments for bone disorders and related indications in large, underserved markets.  Led by an experienced team of biopharmaceutical executives and funded by leading health care investors, Zelos is advancing a portfolio of product opportunities into late stage clinical trials.

We are pursuing programs linked by the common mechanism of stimulating bone formation to provide therapeutic benefit in the following key indications:

  Osteoporosis Bone marrow/Stem cell transplantation
  Fracture repair Renal bone disease
  Multiple myeloma

Our lead compound is ZT-031 [Ostabolin-C™, cyclic PTH-(1-31)], a proprietary cyclic 31-amino acid parathyroid hormone (PTH) analog. In a twelve month Phase 2 study in postmenopausal women with low bone mass, ZT-031 demonstrated its capacity as a powerful bone formation agent, having a rapid onset of effect leading to clinically important increases in bone mineral density (BMD) with low potential for calcium related toxicity.  Multiple, prospectively designed regression analyses of the Phase 2 database indicated that bodyweight has a highly significant additive effect to that of dose on efficacy and safety parameters, leading to the development of an innovative dosing regimen.  This weight-based dosing approach is being thoroughly tested and could potentially provide a consistent clinical effect in all patients.  Following in-depth technical assessment, Zelos has licensed a proprietary technology permitting the intranasal administration of ZT-031, creating a convenient dosage form which is expected to be a well accepted alternative to daily subcutaneous injection.

Zelos is well positioned to leverage our specialized expertise in bone and bone marrow diseases to create a number of product opportunities with significant commercial potential:

  • The observed benefit to risk profile of ZT-031 is consistent with continued development for all of the proposed indications.
  • Our ability to leverage existing safety data, as well as the clear demonstration of bone formation activity and dose finding in Phase 2, should enable us to move ZT-031 rapidly into late stage development in additional indications in which stimulation of bone formation has therapeutic utility.
  • Two different methods of delivery and several different options for weight based dosing can be applied to our platform to improve patient adherence to therapy, expand the addressable market for ZT-031 and extend the product life cycle.

Our target markets, including the Forteo® (teriparatide) market in osteoporosis, are characterized by large commercial potential driven by a relatively small number of specialist prescribers.  Zelos intends to target these physicians using a highly focused specialty sales force in the US.  We have the potential to generate additional revenues in these indications through strategic collaborations and have multiple opportunities to build shareholder value.

Zelos Therapeutics is a highly efficient and focused specialty pharmaceutical company headquartered in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.  We currently operate with 15 employees.

Forteo® is a registered trademark of Eli Lilly and Company.
